RORY SWAPS OVER HIS PUTTER

Rory McIlroy missed the cut on Friday at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, but not before replacing new Nike Method 006 prototype putter with the one that he used to win the US Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship 2012, his Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport GSS putter.

On Monday night in Abu Dhabi, McIlroy was introduced as a Nike staff player in a dazzling event after  signing a lucrative deal with the company and putting a new shiny set of 14 cllubs into his bag  along with the company's new 20XI X golf ball.

"I was blown away by the groove technology on [the putter]," McIlroy said that evening. "I liked how well the ball rolled coming off the clubface."

However, after shooting 75 on Friday, a frustrated McIlroy said that he'd switched back to his old Cameron putter because the greens in Abu Dhabi seemed slow.

"I just felt the greens I have been practicing on were much faster," he said.

McIlroy said the putter change was a "weight issue."

"The one I used to today is a little heavier and I felt like I could stroke it a little bit more," he said.

When reporter at the Nike event asked McIlroy if he had the option to go back to his Scotty Cameron. McIlroy replied, "I'm really happy with the putter that I have in the bag. I've practiced with it and feel really comfortable with it, so I've no further comment to make but from now on I'll be playing a Method putter."

Asked again whether he could switch back to his old putter, McIlroy said, "I'm not here to get into specifics about the contract."

On Friday morning, we knew the answer to that question.
