Kevin
Streelman won a PGA Tour title at the
153rd attempt as he held off a last day fight back from Boo Weekley to win the
Tampa Bay Championship.
Weekley,
among the early starters after three average rounds, came from nowhere to shoot
an eight-under 63 to take the clubhouse lead before facing an anxious wait to
see whether he had done enough to take the win.
In the
end only fellow American Streelman was able to deny Weekley as he shot a
four-under 67 to move to 10 under overall and take his maiden PGA title by two
strokes.Streelman's win was a tribute to his complete consistency, with the
34-year-old from Illinois going bogey-free over his final 37 holes.
The
Copperhead course has been a tough course and Streelman's impressive form
ensured his victory.
Streelman's
win earns him a ticket to the Masters next month - only the second time he will
have played the famous event at Augusta National.
