A delighted Chris Wood admitted a huge weight had been
lifted from his shoulders after finally claiming his first European Tour
triumph at the Qatar Masters on Saturday.
The 25-year-old, who shot to prominence after successive top-five
finishes at the Open Championship in 2008 and 2009, clinched victory in
thrilling fashion with an eagle at the closing hole to pip George
Coetzee and Spains Sergio Garcia by one shot.The English man secured his first professional win in Thailand last August, but admitted it was special to open his account on the European Tour.
"I knew it was going to be hard today, no matter how I played - to win on the European Tour, it's not easy," he told Sky Sports.
"I felt like I've been due to win for a couple of years, there's an enormous weight lifted off my shoulders today. I feel like I can go on and win more now."
