Rory McIlroy tops the Official World Golf Ranking for 2012


Rory McIlroy: Ends an impressive 2012 as world number one

Rory McIlroy ends 2012 on a high as he tops the Official World Golf Ranking, with British team-mate Luke Donald in second place.
Marked as the successor to 14-time Major winner Tiger Wood, Rory tops the list with a total of 596.99 points scored, with 2011's world number one Luke Donald following (345.77).
Rory who finished last year ranked third, has enjoyed an amazing  2012, winning the USPGA Championship by an impressive eight shots as well as successfully retaining the Ryder Cup in Medinah as part of the European team.
Tiger Woods ends 2012 ranked behind the two Brits, a significant improvement on his 23rd place finish in 2011, with Justin Rose in fourth place.
The rankings reveal there are 19 Europeans in the leading 50, and a further 18 have already booked their spots in the first major of 2013.
