American
Michael Thompson finished on top with his first victory on the 2013 tour at the
Honda Classic on Sunday. He followed up his runner-up finish in the United
States Open last year.
The 27
year old from Arizona persevered in US Open-type conditions as a strong wind
turned the PGA National course into a brutal test. Thompson won by two strokes
from Australian Geoff Ogilvy, whose best moment in golf also came at a US Open,
when he walked off with the trophy at Winged Foot in 2006.
‘This
week was magical, I just had a groove and I just kept believing,’ said
Thompson, who closed with a one under par round of 69 to earn his first
million-dollar prize.
