Three-time winner Adam Scott of Australia believes the Singapore Open has a possible future as a US PGA Tour event.
Scott was asked on Tuesday whether he could foresee the US$6 million tournament becoming part of the Asian swing including the CIMB Classic and the WGC-HSBC Champions both of which will be fully fledged events on the PGA Tour next year.
"It is something you should ask (the PGA Tour's) Tim Finchem. I think the Singapore Open is one of the biggest tournaments in Asia and certainly the direction moving forward it could be considered as a tournament for the PGA Tour, it is certainly of the quality that the PGA Tour looks for," he said.
"It may or may not be an option, I do not really know. But certainly it is a high class event that has been run here and I have nothing but good things to say about the Singapore Open.
"It is a very hectic schedule in Asia at this time of year and seeing the PGA Tour shifting their focus to Asia for a few weeks is going to attract a lot of good players over here so I am sure there are a lot of opportunities for the Singapore Open to continue to grow."
This is the fourth edition of the Barclays Singapore Open as a joint sanctioned event with the European Tour and the Asian Tour.
