Ladies European Tour (LET) - Thompson confident of defending Omega Dubai Ladies Masters title

Lexi enjoying a camel ride at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa
Lexi Thompson believes ‘amazing memories’ of her win last year will help her to successfully defend this week at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, being held under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
“I may not have won this year, but I am getting more consistent with my game, which is good. I had two Top-10s, a second and a fifth and that shows overall I have done well this season,” said Thompson ahead of the season-ending Ladies European Tour event, starting on Wednesday at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.
“My biggest memory from last year was that walk up to the 18th green with all the fans cheering. Anywhere you win, you have amazing memories,” said Thompson, who added another memorable experience to her list of adventures on Sunday when she, along with Michelle Wie, enjoyed a camel ride at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa.
“Michelle and I had a lot of fun,” said Thompson, who last year became the youngest professional player, aged 16, to win events on both LPGA and LET Tours. The milestone, however, no longer exists thanks to Lydia Ko, who won the Canadian Open earlier this year, aged 15.

“She (Lydia) is an extraordinary talent,” said Laura Davies, who at 49, is amongst the more experienced players on the circuit. “I have seen her on the range a few times and she hits it straight and keeps the ball in play. She is always as cool as a cucumber,” said Davies, who is pushing for her first win in Dubai since making her first appearance in the event in 2007.
“Last year I didn’t play well and missed the cut. Being a ‘golf in DUBAi’ ambassador I just felt awful. The field this year is very strong, but I think I have a good chance and we will see come Saturday morning.  That win in ISPS Handa Legends Tour Open a couple of weeks ago was important. Even though it wasn’t on the regular tour, but still winning is winning and that’s the important thing,” said Davies, who finished solo seventh in the just concluded Hero Women’s Indian Open.
“I am really pleased with my performance. I had a chance to win (in India), but ended up being 11 shots back. In fact, I had my chances to win four or five tournaments this year, but couldn’t. That bodes well for next year because I know there is lot more left in me,” said Davies, the winner of 80 titles worldwide.

Graeme McDowell sealed his World Challenge victory on Sunday

Graeme McDowell at the World Challenge

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Graeme McDowell could think of no better way to head home for a 10-week holiday that to win for the first time in two years.
And he couldn't have found a better place to end the drought than Sherwood Country Club.

Even with the course playing longer than ever in a light rain, McDowell closed with a 4-under 68 on Sunday and held off Keegan Bradley with a pair of superb short-game shots that carried him to a three-shot win in the World Challenge.
It was the 10th time in 12 rounds at Sherwood that McDowell has shot in the 60s, and he extended his dominance on the course that Jack Nicklaus carved out among the foothills of Conejo Valley. In three appearances, McDowell has won twice and was runner-up.
But this one was meaningful in its own right.
"This really caps off my season," McDowell said. "We try not to put winning on a pedestal, but this one feels very sweet because it's been a grind all year."
McDowell won for the first time since he beat Tiger Woods in a playoff right here at Sherwood to close out a dream season in 2010 that included his first major at the U.S. Open and the winning point for Europe at the Ryder Cup.

Ladies European Tour (LET) - Dubai-based Kavita Sehmi to play in Omega Dubai Ladies Masters

Kavita Sehmi will need to calm her adrenaline when she makes her first appearance in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters to be held under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Emirates Golf Club from December 5 to 8.
For the 17-year-old Emirates Golf Club prodigy, who will be competing in the season-ending Ladies European Tour event on a sponsor’s invitation, it may sound like a quixotic challenge, but she is confident of being competitive when she joins the likes of defending champion Lexi Thompson, seasoned Laura Davies and charismatic Michelle Wie in a star-studded field.
“I am grateful to golf in DUBAi for inviting me to play at this highest-level of golf. I know opportunities like this one don’t come knocking your door too often. I will try and give my best shot and see what happens,” said Kavita, who started playing golf when she was just six years old.
“I am not thinking far ahead, but my immediate goal is to try and make the cut and that in itself will constitute an achievement,” said Kavita, a two-time winner of the Junior Club Championship at Emirates Golf Club.
“I have not been playing competitive golf these because of my school exams, but have been taking lessons from Steven Deane (head pro at EGC) to fine tune my skills ahead of the tournament,” said Kavita, a grade 11th student at JESS in Arabian Ranches.
“I have played this (Majlis) course many times and know what it takes to shoot low. Hopefully, my long game would come in handy,” said Kavita, who averages about 260 yards off the tee. “I don’t think making the cut is a distant dream, but it will all depend on how I fare with my putter,” said Kavita whose best round at her home course being a three-under 69.
“Whatever the outcome, it will be fun to play and meet players like Lexi, one of my good friends with whom I interact frequently on Facebook. I can’t wait to get started,” said Kavita, who finished second on the 2011-2012 Ladies Amateur Order of Merit in the UAE.
Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, believes such invitations to local talent will spur them to take the sport seriously and work harder on their game. “We try and rotate invitations each year so that everyone who has achieved a certain level of standard gets first-hand experience of what it takes to compete at this level of golf.
“I wish Kavita the very best and hope her presence in the elite field will motivate other emerging players to aim for greater things in life.”
‘golf in DUBAi' is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Drydocks World & Maritime World, Emirates NBD, Gulf News, Mercedes-Benz and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi's drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
